National governing body: The organization responsible for administering a competitive sport within a given nation. For figure skating in the United States this is the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA). In Canada it is the Canadian Figure Skating Association (CFSA).

Normal rotation jump: A jump in which the angular momentum associated with the skater's takeoff edge is in the same sense (clockwise or counter-clockwise) as the angular momentum of the skater's rotation in the air.  That is, the motion on the entry edge to the jump and the rotation of the jump in the air have the same clockwise or counter-clockwise direction.
